Welcome to the FossaMail homepage!
FossaMail is an Open Source, Mozilla Thunderbird-based mail, news and chat client for Windows, brought to you by the Pale Moon developer (and therefore not affiliated with the Mozilla Corporation). It is an optimized and reconfigured re-build of Mozilla Thunderbird ESR.
(Excerpt) Read more at fossamail.org ...
Is built from source with compiler optimizations geared towards an as stable and smooth operation of the client as possible (Pale Moon-alike optimizations). Uses its own profile folder on your system. This means it will not interfere with existing Thunderbird installations. The default profile location is %APPDATA%\FossaMail Should be compatible with all Thunderbird add-ons and plugins. Is available in 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x64) versions. Comes with an optional calendar/organizer add-on (Lightning) that will allow it to be used in a Microsoft Outlook style information manager fashion.
System requirements:
Windows Vista or above (Windows XP is not supported) A processor with SSE2 support Sufficient hard drive space to install and store your e-mail and other data An internet connection ;-)
Current version: 24.5.0
For those that want to divorce themselves from Mozilla. FYI, I have not downloaded it or tried Fossa yet, Palemoon works wonderfully, hopefully this does too...
I am using Pale Moon for Linux and I have no complaints
Been using Thunderbird for several months. Love it.
This would be a non-Mozilla Clone. Yes T-Bird is great many good add-ons as well.
That is the word...
(yoost'a be ... )
thirty twice
Haven't found a reason to switch to a clone like PaleMoon, but I couldn't do it on Mac OSX anyway.
When I hear “fossamail” why does Jar Jar Binks come to mind???
Thanks taildragger.
Anyone remember Eudora or Netscape Messenger 9? Heh. I’ve been using Turd-Bird email since 2005, and it works fine.
I got Eudora with my second ISP signup. (First was Delphi, text only, then TIAC.) I liked Eudora so much that I got the paid version. Been using Thunderbird and its forks (e.g. Icedove) since then.
Outlook is still the best email/PIM I ever used but I only use it at work where they are paying for it.
I’ve been using Thunderbird with the lightning addon for 6 years now and I’m very happy with it but I’m eager to migrate away from all my mozilla stuff. Palemoon is a fine substitute for Firefox.
Any word if Fossamail is going to go portable?
I think it is so new that we will have to see or email them...
Got the Eudora and Netscape CDs in summer of ‘95 with first ISP’s software, and a ‘blazing-fast’ 14.4 dial-up. Hot stuff back then, compared to my old ‘86/’87 IBM PS2/50 and 9600 baud dial-up on Compuserve BBS. Still had those and everything since, in boxes, until last move. Felt good to clean-out the ‘archives’.
Been using T-bird for several years. Would really like to dump it.
Some of the time its great, but then along comes one of their many upgrades and the shite starts happening. This is routine about every other “upgrade”.
Anyone know how to move email files over and operations to Outlook? Yeah I know it sounds dumb, but I prefer reliable over new fangled snazzy or something you need to be a tech contributor to CNET to figure out.
Thunderbird is no help with transferring away from their little nest.
