After five weeks, and more than 800 million ballots cast, the largest election in the history of mankind ended with a landslide winannounced on Sundayfor Indias opposition Bharatiya Janata Party. The bjp is now set to form a new government under Hindu nationalist Narendra Modi.
Modis mammoth victory means he has something no ruler of India has had for over 30 years: an absolute majority in the lower house of Parliament. This gives him powers his predecessors could only have dreamed ofand the indications are that he will use it.
Good days are coming, Modi said in a victory speech. The journey has started.
This journey holds great geopolitical significance because Modis history indicates that it will be one that steers India away from the United States and nearer to Russia, China and other Asian states.

I think US will now leave Afghanistan in Pakistan hand.
Mumble Singh is history now.
Another Obama foreign policy victory.
Why the west constantly rushes to the aid of Islam contrary to its own interests is a mystery to me.
Russia and India seem to be turning East. Foreign Policy reset bump.
They should not have announced the total. Now the Democrats will want to top that number when it comes to the popular votes in the 2016 Presidential election. (Might be hard unless voters are not required to show photo IDs.)
I suppose that makes sense, given the US’s apparent self image problems.
OIL.
Let Europe defend the King of Saud.

It isn’t the King of Saud, but Pakistan they were trying to keep happy.
I disagree. Unless the Obama administration does something incredibly stupid, Modi will probably improve Indo-US ties. Regardless of the personal snub (which probably means he won’t be in a hurry to visit the White House), he is smart enough not to rupture relations with a country that most Indians think well of. His plans for economic growth will also include more closer ties with the U.S., not less.
Relations with Russia will always be good but ties with China are being overblown here. While economic ties will improve, Modi will likely be much tougher with China on border issues. Indeed the countries that will be closest to the new government led by Mr.Modi will be Japan & Israel, two countries he is known to feel very close to.
