I agree: Detroit is Exhibit A.
Let California be Exhibit B.
When I moved here in the 1980s the economy was thriving. I found two jobs within one week of my arrival here. It was then the heart of Reagan Country. Very dynamic, very creative, very robust. Now, thanks to one Party rule, the state is bankrupt. Businesses and industry are fleeing to places like Texas. We are bankrupt and drowning in debt here. We have almost the highest unemployment rate in the whole country. We have the highest taxes here, the highest gas prices. We are being strangled by big government and government employee unions. Illegal immigration is completely out of control. We have the most anti-business climate of any state in the union. We have plenty of oil and water in our state, but cannot access those resources. California is a fine example of what can happen to a state when the liberals take over everything.
It’s almost impossible to convey what CA was like back then.
You could decide on Monday that you wanted to be in, say, the printing business. Knowing utterly nothing about it. And in under a week, you could go visit some printers and get hired....doing something. Maybe it would just be sweeping the floor, but in a month, if you showed any aptitude you’d be running a machine. In three months, if you stuck around, you would be given a raise. Without even asking.
It was truly the land of near infinite opportunity. Great schools, great roads, great weather.
If liberals could only figure out a way to f**k up the weather, they would.
