the big deal is my daughter goes to public school and i pay my local real estate and school taxes- they have the records on file yet i have to prove all of this???

if i didn’t pay my school/property taxes what do you think would happen???

The federal government doesn't have access to local property tax records.

this is a rather simple request that is easily complied with.

I once claimed expenses due to putting in a handicap ramp as part of a commercial renovation. The IRS wrote back asking for proof of the claim I had made. I sent them a copy of the invoice and that was the end of it. Nothing sinister, easily complied with.

I am actually glad to know the IRS follows up on the deductions people make on occasion, it helps prevent fraud.
