Many black leaders have said similar things, e.g., "We're worse off now than we were in 1960." And - by SOME objective criteria - they ARE worse off, particularly in terms of the broken family structure. And how many of them have said, "Maybe we were better off under chattel slavery?"

In effect, they have said, "We were better off under Jim Crow." They did not put it that way, but they've said they were better off in 1960, when Jim Crow was still in effect.
