I remember during the height of the cold war back in about 1973 in Germany, I received my first ever "classified" briefing about the enemy across the Iron Curtain from us. It was a simple briefing for us low-ranking troops, classified "confidential".

What stuck in my memory that is so vivid is the documentary they showed about Czechoslovakia (also classified).

Cameras....they went on at length about the cameras. Cameras in stores, cameras on street corners, cameras everywhere. We were given glimpses of some of them.

"People" we were told "Were having their every move recorded, so the authorities, if need be, can go back and find out who was where when."

I think about that now with just about every newscast about any crime committed. What do the cameras tell us?
