I thought the cattle were supposed to be rounded up and sold at auction. Why were they shot?

From what I’ve read, the cattle carried the Bundy brand and ear notches. The cattle could not be auctioned or bought without written approval by Bundy.
So, some ****head in the government decided to just shoot them and bury them in deep pits.
