Eliminate “Education” degrees and require a real degree in a real subject area.

I agree. This alone would be a huge improvement.

It takes a certain type of personality to finish an "education" degree. An Ed degree is not something a normal, sensible, thinking person would every want to go through.

As it stands the education system is some kind of special employment project for people who would otherwise be unemployable. Spending years writing papers about Piaget's theories or cognitive psychology is of no relevance to the actual job of teaching. Having knowledge of the subject and skill to teach in class are not requirements.

The priority should be to get rid of these Ed degree people.

I’ve read articles that “Ed majors” tested on the bottom 25% SAT exam.

Considering the horror stories of how utterly stupid so many teachers are, I believe it.

If I need heart surgery, I want someone who was educated & trained as a heart surgeon.

I want my children taught be people who were educated with math, science and degrees that are relevant. “ED” degrees are totally meaningless and become a tool to indoctrinate the kids with socialism.

“Hey, teachers - leave our kids alone!”

There are those of us that have vocational backgrounds. I worked as both a Machinist and a Cabinet maker long before I got into teaching. I had to take a total of 5 "Education Classes" and student teach at a vocational school in order to get certified. There are alternatives if people are willing to pursue them.
