In Wisconsin the citizenship question is reduced to a statement in a sea of fine print on the registration application where the applicant is supposed to color in a tiny dot if he/she is a citizen. Half the time the registrar misses whether that is colored in and just accepts the application. If the registrar catches it later, she colors it in.

What does your dynamic "conservative" GOP governor have to say about that? And what do your state legislative GOP majorities think? Do they even recognize the problem?

That is called "pencil whipping"....a civil servant falsifyng an offical document without doing the evidentiary bgrnd, is subject to termination and jailtime.

The GOP and our Governor are well aware of the problem. I’ve lived here 27 years and photo Voter ID has been approved by the legislature at least 4 times, enjoys overwhelming popular support, but has been stopped in the courts every time, including now where it is in the Supreme Court as I write. The Wisconsin Supreme Court seems to be stalling its decision.

And we dare not even speak of getting rid of the Registration at the Polls law. A former US Senator (Russ Feingold) even tried to make that odious procedure a national law but we kicked him out of office before he could accomplish that. Registration at the polls does not allow the city clerks the opportunity to check residence, or other particulars before the election. It’s too late after the votes are cast and counted.

Our voting regulations are governed by an “independent” body called the Government Accountability Board. The Governor has no control over them, except to replace them individually when their terms expire. A lot of us think that the GAB should be disbanded, but nobody has come up with a plan yet. The GAB is composed of a lot of left leaning former judges and others who were appointed by the previous Democrat Governor.
