Totally agree that education doesn’t make you smart.
It only means that a person is smart enough to get through the education which sometimes doesn’t amount to much in the way of useful information. I suspect some of these people are only good at regurgitating their professor’s opinions. However, sciences like math, engineering, medicine are different since they deal with absolutes.
However, education does coney a veneer of respectability in many social and professional circles.
