You might want to try GEORGE WASHINGTON, THE IMAGE AND THE MAN by W.E. Woodward. I read it about 25 years ago and it has always remained in my memory as depicting George Washington as a real person and not some mythical superhuman figure. The book was originally printed in 1922 but has been reprinted since. It is available on Amazon at various prices.

The best (IMHO) is James Flexner's Washington: The Indispensable Man

Having read several volumes on GW, I found Flexner’s to be the outlier- he seemed to dispute every quality of faith all the others and GW own writings reveal. Flexner had an issue with that aspect of the record- although GW did indeed play the socialite and even bet on horses etc.

Best;

The books recommended are good, reading his letters at the Library of Congress is awesome!

Washington: A Life. By Ron Chernow. Has a lot about his home life in it.

Douglas Southall Freeman has the most comprehensive series. Also, “The Indispensible Man” is a good single-volume work, and short.
