Absolute nonsense
“But, actually, food is cheaper than it has ever been, according to a chart from MJ Perry. Well... the key is that as a percentage of disposable income food prices remain ridiculously cheap. Yes, they’ve gone up, and sure wages have gone down, but it’s all about perspective.”

Food prices for Americans fell more than 30% over the 40 year period of 1969 through 2009, the latest year I have data on. The newer chart, which shows more recent data, but not the earlier years, essentially confirms this.

Nonsense.
(We have now sunk to a depth at which restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men)

I was searching for what other countries waste. I recall environmentalists complaining about fancy packaging - but it reality it helps prevent spoilage of fruits and veggies. The following link has more statistics on worldwide food waste from farm to consumer.
And ignoring the do-gooder, feel-good environmentalism crap, I think the article I linked is interesting from a cost-savings, prepper mentality (talks about bogus expiration dates). And for me, being a “good steward” of what we have is important.
Some of my mom’s Great Depression attitudes rubbed off on me, but she would cringe at what we throw out that we find back in the fridge. Whereas some simple planning would have resulted in a few more meals.
