One of my biggest pet peeves on the road is the left-lane highway cruiser. If youre a compulsive reader of my articles (Why would you do that to yourself?), you may remember that I have written on this very issue before.
I dont care how fast you are going. The leftmost lane on the highway is for passing. That is basic road etiquette, but, not surprisingly, few people here in Georgia follow it. And it is frustrating.
Well the Georgia State legislature is here to save the day. They are currently enacting a bill (dubbed the Slowpoke Bill) that would make lollygagging in the left lane a misdemeanor. Thats right. All those people with their left blinker still on going 62 in a 65 in the left lane pacing the car on their right with ten cars piled up behind them Johnny Law is coming for you.
The reaction to the bill is hilarious. Some lady (armygirl1974), who probably has no idea how bad she is at driving, responded, What if the speed limit is 65 and I am going 65, am I supposed to move over and let someone going 90 pass[?] Give me a ticket, I dare you. Are you supposed to move over? Yeah. Thats exactly what youre supposed to do. I mean, seriously? Is that a real question? Who made you the hall monitor of safe driving speeds? Im looking forward to seeing you on the side of the road getting ticketed for just that.
The rules are there to allow everyone the maximum opportunity to drive the way he wants. The speed limit is an arbitrary suggestion, and thats a fact. Depending on the police officer and the stretch of road youre on, you can go as much as 15 over the speed limit (and maybe more in some cases) without having to worry at all about a police officer pulling you over. So the more likely scenario for the Slowpoke Bill is a person going the speed limit and someone else who wants to go even ten miles an hour faster pulling up behind them. Neither driver would be ticketed for speeding, but under the Slowpoke Bill, the person in front would be ticketed for blocking up traffic.
This is not just a hypothetical example. Here in Georgia, we have a loop around the city called 285. The posted speed limit on 285 is 55 miles per hour. No one, and I mean no one, goes 55 on 285. The average speed is a little under 70. If you went 55, you would be a danger to society. If armygirl1974 decided to go 55 in the left lane to keep everyone legal, she wouldnt be doing a public service. She would be (and probably is) a public nuisance at best. The Slowpoke Bill would see her ticketed for those shenanigans.
So
Well done, Georgia legislature! This may be one of the only times I ever congratulate you. So savor it.
It hasn't revealed that at all, the problem with the passing lane slow pokes is universally recognized as a dangerous problem, the only people who's driving habits are being revealed on this thread, are those rare individuals who are causing the lane blocking problem, it isn't revealing anything about the traffic experts and the 99.99% of the driving public who want them to be stopped.
This isn't a fast driver, versus slow driver thread, it is about those strange eggs who block the passing lanes on purpose, and judging from their post, are determined to keep doing it if they can.
Remember that all the other lanes are affected by then blocking off the fast lane.
...thousands of faceless strangers and families and delivery people, and travelers.
Damn! You are my hero.
That sounds about right, except I-75 is a bit too slow...
I generally find liberals are speeders, not moderate drivers.
Speeders make the road more dangerous, not people driving at the speed limit. As I stated before, in my state (and every state I've been in, including your own domicile of California, IIRC) the left lane is not reserved exclusively for passing.
"As far as your personal attack, that you cant find the proof for, it doesnt surprise me that you keep claiming that it is just a google away, but that you cant find it, it still doesnt justify your cussing anyway."
You have called everyone on this thread who disagrees with you emotionally, mentally, and psychologically deficient, neurotic, egotistical...But "personal attacks" are of great concern to you? Either way,

Are a couple of examples of yourself employing the word in question. However, it occurs to me how absurd it is that I'm even defending myself from you on this, the use of one particular word in one instance, in light of the insulting, belittling, frequently dishonest, and aggressive speech and attitude you display towards nearly everyone you interact with. But you *generally* keep it "clean," so its all good,, eh?
LOL, the more you post the more you reveal about yourself.
To justify your cussing, you show me on a thread where I am trying to stop cussing, and another one from 2007 where in a discussion of a famous Indian, the most highly decorated Indian of the Vietnam War, an Airborne Ranger LRRP, I quoted his written description on his combat and the loss of Vietnam.
As far as you trying to justify your dangerous and emotional driving by pointing out that speeders are dangerous too, you ignore your own behavior and blocking the fast lane, disrupting traffic patterns, and doing it deliberately, that is a sick and dangerous way for you to try to compensate.
Quit causing dangerous conditions.
LOL, trying stop people from using the acronym SHTF, which in your mind comprises cussing...By spelling out the word you supposedly object to, even when others take issue with it. You will stop people from saying "S" by saying "Shit" yourself, in order to reduce cussing on the forum! And the other one, where you are quoting -- it doesn't matter. You supposedly object to the use of said word on the forum, yet use it under the excuse of "gee, somebody else said it first."
"As far as you trying to justify your dangerous and emotional driving by pointing out that speeders are dangerous too, you ignore your own behavior and blocking the fast lane, disrupting traffic patterns, and doing it deliberately, that is a sick and dangerous way for you to try to compensate."
I'm only blocking in the minds of people who consider the speed limit (or even slightly beyond) too slow. Such people display an extreme entitlement attitude -- screw the rules, get out of my way because I decide what speed is appropriate!
Yes, I was trying to stop people from incorporating SHTF and changing survivalism or prepper, to language that you prefer.
You admit that you block the fast lane and cause all the dangers and disruption of traffic flow that the laws are having to deal with.
Such people display an extreme entitlement attitude — screw the rules, I’m blocking this lane because I decide what speed is appropriate!
You clearly do have emotional problems, and in your car is where you act out on your ego issues.
What is baffling is your passion to block the fast lane, what is going on inside of you when you drive, that prevents you from moving to the right lanes and letting the world get on with their business?
What kind of ego is involved when no one can shake you from that deliberate behavior?
Because the "S" in SHTF is offensive (in your mind), you decided that repeatedly typing "shit" would be a good way to stop potty language. A brilliant plan no doubt, though perhaps not as effective as simply "legislating a solution."
"You admit that you block the fast lane and cause all the dangers and disruption of traffic flow that the laws are having to deal with."
On the contrary, I "admit" no such thing. I said that I am only blocking the left lane in the minds of people who want to surpass the speed limit and fly down the road with the vehicles in front of them parting like the red sea before their entitlement. You seem to be one such driver.
Evidently you are blocking the fast lane according to a growing number of states, the result is the dangerous disruption of smooth traffic flow, which is much more important than going Carter’s 55 mph, or the GOP’s 70 mph on the freeway
It is clearly some form of emotional activity for you, that you do on purpose, it is interesting to be able to get a close up look at one of you, it isn’t pretty to see.
Evidently we are hateful bigots for not supporting gayness, according to a growing number of states. What is your point? The opinions of state governments is unerring.
"the result is the dangerous disruption of smooth traffic flow,"
Oh, no doubt. There may be studies to prove this.
"It is clearly some form of emotional activity for you, that you do on purpose, it is interesting to be able to get a close up look at one of you, it isnt pretty to see."
I'm tempted to tell you that speeding isn't going to make your donger any longer.
*NOT unerring.
it is interesting to be able to get a close up look at one of you, it isnt pretty to see.

I figure a large part of this problem was/is restricting trucks to the right two lanes.
This gives them an ‘ownership’ attitude and the ‘old days’ of Granpa running in the right lane at a speed where he was comfortable, what with the ‘owners’ of the lanes scaring the beegeesuz out of the ‘old right laners’, they have moved over to the left lane, ‘out of the way’.
Of course to some people, a truck doing the speed limit and coming up behind them scares them....
Were I a cop, my rule of thumb would be ‘If I am doing the posted speed limit or below and am passing you on the right, you are going to get a ticket for impeding traffic’.
Heavy traffic/rush hour excluded.
Maybe we ought to give the Interstates BACK to the Military and truckers, after all that was the original concept of Eisenhowers Interstate System - move Military and Goods.
Post 58 and 63, and 50, describe how cops and traffic experts think about these compulsive oddballs, they know that they are creating problems and dangers.
There are countless examples of Liberals reveling while successfully imposing their beliefs on others. Blocking other drivers and refusing to move to the right lane is but one example.
Another type of person who refuses to move is one which ansel12 has pointed out on this thread and done an excellent job of revealing to readers.
From your posts on this thread it may be difficult to know which type you are, but, as a professional driver, I see the danger you pose to other drivers on a daily basis.
