So the Tea Parties are acting to preserve the hegemony of the uniparty for the sake of expediency? If so, that’s not a good thing and very shortsighted. In the long term, the American people are coming to really dislike both factions of the uniparty and view them more as competing mafias than anything. Do the Tea Parties really want to tie their future to that?

That would be an unfair assessment. The Tea Party is NOT a formal political party nor associated formally with any political party. The issue isn't "expediency" but getting the best people in front of the American people and getting them elected. The Tea Party has no interest in "preserving" anything. They want to overthrow the GOP and repopulate it with freedom-loving Americans.

Although Tea Party, George Washington, you, and I don't care for partisan politics, the fact is there will always be the bigger government folks against the smaller government folks, which goes all the way back to our beginnings with Hamilton vs. Madison, etc. To deny that is to deny 200+ years of political reality. Running away from reality doesn't help. Dealing with things as they are the best we can does help.
