Very true but... the second sentence in the document that declared our Independence from King George clearly states three INALIENABLE RIGHTS BESTOWED BY GOD. What is the first right mentioned in the second sentence ever put to paper by what was to become the United States of America?
The Constitution gave the federal government the power to protect our lives and liberties from foreign invasion. But the way the Constitution protects our lives and freedoms from domestic violation of life and liberty is to put a short leash on the the separated and enumerated powers of the federal government.
In their wisdom, the founders knew the greatest threat to life and liberty was the government itself. That's why there's nothing in the Constitution delegating power to the federal government concerning individual issues like murder,"high crime", etc. except in the behavior of officials. Constitution leaves things like murder, etc. up to the states. The Constitution does not give the federal government power over any individual (with the one exception of the 11th Amendment against a person owning a slave).
