One year ago today, Intellectual Takeout had one of its most illuminating Facebook posts and corresponding reactions. Ever.
Being Valentines Day, we decided to share definitions of the four loves from C.S. Lewis book of the same name. The first love we shared was Affection, which is best exemplified in the love of parents for offspring and offspring for parents. It got lots of likes, though more from females. All in all, predictable.
The second love we shared was Friendship. Heres what we wrote in our Facebook post: And the second love? Friendship.
When either Affection or Eros is ones theme, one finds a prepared audience. The importance and beauty of both have been stressed and almost exaggerated again and again. Even those who would debunk them are in conscious reaction against this laudatory tradition and, to that extent, influenced by it. But very few modern people think Friendship a love of comparable value or even a love at all
To the Ancients, Friendship seemed the happiest and most fully human of all loves; the crown of life and the school of virtue. The modern world, in comparison, ignores it
How has this come about?

It required that men respect women. Whether it was opening the door for a lady or giving a lady your seat on the bus. It may seem silly but it was those little things, those silly actions, that reinforced the idea in men's minds that women should be respected and that they were something special.
Now a woman is a sexual object to be used for pleasure and producing babies. A “ho.”
The irony is that I bet that most if not all women want this kind of respect but they are reminded by the left that to accept this attention would mean that they would have to lower themselves.
One of my wife’s women’s magazines, had an article claiming that it was bad for a woman to be married and have children. Children and marriage were a way to enslave women and a woman who chose a traditional lifestyle was something less.
I remember it being a well known magazine.
There is a “mind set” that would subvert all of God’s created order. This mind set is in full control in the Democrat party, if not the entire nation. The Church in our nation is in a very weakened and compromised position (a few exceptions). Individual hearts can still be changed, of course, but I don’t see a moral movement of such a strength that it could reverse our nation’s direction. I would love to be proven wrong.
“For wherever tyranny is established, immorality of every kind comes in like a torrent, it is in the interest of tyrants to reduce the people to ignorance and vice. - Samuel Adams
