In an era of wealth redistribution during which no criticism of the Administration is allowed and consistently collides with the guarding media panderers at the gate and in a time when the vast government bureaucracies have become engines of political annihilation, we suffer from a dearth of inspiration. The ideologically rooted and self-serving social engineering experiment being foisted on the Nation through the IRS backdoor is a manipulation presided over by narrow minded exploiters incapable of grasping the negative unforeseen consequences of their policies in either the near term, or the long term.
The explosion of safety-net measures and increased taxation, accelerating spending without enlightened measures to stimulate job creation and economic activity will do worse than just continue the stalling of growth. It will stagnate the economy well into another generation as that generation comes of age enough to comprehend the debt it has inherited. Our children and grandchildren will have difficulty understanding why such measures as "loan forgiveness" and "bail-outs" made sense, whether for mismanaged banks, or for mortgage and loan debtors. They also will not understand why such disastrous policies as Obamacare were instituted.
Most disconcerting is the fact that not only is there no inspiring, or positively energizing spark coming from the Obama/Jarrett Administration, but it is determined to use fatalistic, pessimistic and detrimental condemnation of American "determination to succeed" in order to rationalize its own incompetence, failures and extreme ideological agendas.
Let's not exaggerate the effluent spilling from the White House, let's just quote it, "Americans would no longer be trapped in a job just to provide coverage for their families, and would have the opportunity to pursue their dreams." and the mind-numbing, ". . . the health care law will allow people to choose to work less."

That’s what it’s about. Turning the country into the soviet union.
The only way to save Detroit is to seriously cut taxes to encourage private service providers. Let Canada get the new bridge built and designate a large duty free zone around it. Detroit is the second busiest freight crossing on the continent and there is no reason that alone shouldn’t be providing a major boost.
Cut corporate and private property tax to 5%, cut payroll and income taxes back to 2% and encourage tax free repatriation from overseas. Once that starts working in the most economically depressed areas start expanding it to other areas.
For decades now, and especially with a committed "redistributionist" as their leader, the so-called "progressive" Democrats have refused to acknowledge the simple logic of the article's headline question.
They, in their overwhelming desire for accumulation of power of government over people, acknowledge the taxing power as useful for restraining motivation toward what they deem to be undesirable behavior.
On the other hand, they deny the certain fact that "taking," or taxing productive citizens also discourages and restrains motivation.
Democrats, under Obama, now have endangered the liberty of millions yet unborn with their illogical arguments on behalf of "taking" and "redistributing" the earnings of hard-working Americans. They claim they are "taking care" of those who elected them. Their "taking care" amounts to enslaving every citizen, born and unborn, for generations to come.
Their claims would fall on deaf ears, if most citizens understood their Constitution's limits on the powers of government.
Hear what some of the Founders said about the policies of today's "progressive" Democrats.
"To preserve [the] independence [of the people,] we must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our election between economy and liberty, or profusion and servitude. If we run into such debts as that we must be taxed in our meat and in our drink, in our necessaries and our comforts, in our labors and our amusements, for our callings and our creeds, as the people of England are, our people, like them, must come to labor sixteen hours in the twenty-four, give the earnings of fifteen of these to the government for their debts and daily expenses, and the sixteenth being insufficient to afford us bread, we must live, as they now do, on oatmeal and potatoes, have no time to think, no means of calling the mismanagers to account, but be glad to obtain subsistence by hiring ourselves to rivet their chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers." --Thomas Jefferson to Samuel Kercheval, 1816. ME 15:39"I deem [this one of] the essential principles of our government and consequently [one] which ought to shape its administration:... The honest payment of our debts and sacred preservation of the public faith." --Thomas Jefferson: 1st Inaugural, 1801. ME 3:322
"I sincerely believe... that the principle of spending money to be paid by posterity under the name of funding is but swindling futurity on a large scale." --Thomas Jefferson to John Taylor, 1816. ME 15:23
"[With the decline of society] begins, indeed, the bellum omnium in omnia [war of all against all], which some philosophers observing to be so general in this world, have mistaken it for the natural, instead of the abusive state of man. And the fore horse of this frightful team is public debt. Taxation follows that, and in its train wretchedness and oppression." --Thomas Jefferson to Samuel Kercheval, 1816. ME 15:40
"Is it now high time for the people of this country to explicitly declare whether they will be free men or slaves. It is an important question which ought to be decided. It concerns more than anything in this life. The salvation of our souls is interested in this event. For wherever tyranny is established, immorality of every kind comes in like a torrent, it is in the interest of tyrants to reduce the people to ignorance and vice. - Samuel Adams
And:
The utopian schemes of leveling and a community of goods, are as visionary and impractical as those which vest all property in the crown. These ideas are arbitrary, despotic, and, in our government unconstitutional. - Samuel Adams
"If once the people become inattentive to the public affairs, you and I, and Congress and Assemblies, Judges and Governors, shall all become wolves. It seems to be the law of our general nature, in spite of individual exceptions.”
-- Thomas Jefferson"Ideas have consequences." - Weaver

Whole wheat of course.
Thank you, magistrate"

"May I read a book?
I assure you, it is NOT patriotic and it makes no sense.
* covers phone, honey they want me to watch TV instead *
I wasn't aware that books are about to become illegal. I hope I won't be charged with RetroCrime.
Thank you, satrap"

"I'd like to wear a yellow shirt if that's OK.
Sort of a brown mustard yellow...
Well, how about if I wear a blue shirt.
Yay! I've been approved!"
