Will Republicans Doom Themselves with Amnesty?

This week, Republicans in the House had a closed-door immigration meeting to discuss whether or not to push immigration reform in the coming year. From what we've learned, three factions squared off to discuss the issue. The first faction is opposed to any new legislation as the current legislation isn't being enforced by the Obama administration. A second faction wants to bring immigration reform to the House floor for voting now, while a third faction supports new legislation but believes that this is the wrong time to do it as the midterm elections of 2014 are almost upon us. I find it quite disheartening, but not surprising, that the Republican Party is willing to shoot itself in the foot with immigration reform when ObamaCare is a sweet pitch hanging over that plate that's just begging to be hit out of the ballpark.

Fortunately to some extent, it seems that the pro-reform crowd, such as John Boehner, are lukewarm about bringing up such legislation in an election year. It appears that such legislation over illegal aliens and amnesty are off the table, but we've thought that before only to be brought up by the establishment Republicans. There are still those, such as Paul Ryan, who are pushing amnesty and are not letting go. Apparently the majority of those present in the meeting (some say as high as eighty percent) were against moving forward on illegal immigration reform. This is both good and bad.

The good is that the Republicans should be focusing their energy upon ObamaCare and the economy and putting out a coherent, cohesive message to that effect. There's no surer way to piss off the conservative base by pushing forward amnesty and such an act just plays into the hands of the liberal Democrats. The bad is that many fake conservatives will tout their tough-on-amnesty views while running for election, but will immediately rejoin the establishment flock and work to undermine the country by opening the floodgates to illegals. It's astounding to think that they believe they can increase the percentage of Latinos that vote Republican by doing so when all evidence suggests otherwise.

One of the big problems is that big business is pushing amnesty as they want cheap foreign labor. Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook handed out documents to the group promoting the amnesty agenda. Establishment Republicans are very cozy with big business and don't give a damn for the average working stiff. We're constantly being told that amnesty for illegal aliens will boost our economy, but even the Congressional Budget Office has exploded that lie. We have millions of Americans out of work, but somehow flooding the market with even more labor, which will be cheaper, will somehow get Americans back to work? Sheer lunacy.

What's incredibly frustrating is that we have a golden opportunity to take back the Senate and expand the majority in the House in order to roll back the damage done by Obama. We had a similar opportunity in 2012, but the establishment Republicans worked against conservative Tea Party candidates and pushed establishment types such as Romney. The result was that we lost. Yet they're doing the same thing again, but this time on a bigger scale.

If Republicans would just focus on job creation, energy, and replacing ObamaCare, the upcoming midterm election would be a slam dunk. Yet they muddy the waters by constantly bringing up illegal immigration and fighting against the base of the party. I wish that Republicans cared more about the country than about being popular in DC.

The GOP is already doomed for giving in last October-November.

The GOP will lose in 14 and 16 if there is not a stream of millions of Illegal Aliens streaming over the border and back into Mexico....that is a fact

The GOP needs to counter Obama and the Dems raising the minimum wage...Illegal Alien Amnesty is not going to counter it

As far as I am concerned, the Republicans have already doomed themselves. It doesn’t matter what they do anymore.

26 years ago we passed amnesty for 2 million in exchange for a secure border which Ted Kennedy famously remarked “ So this would never happen again”

Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat mistakes.

And that is why the Dems love Low Information Voters, those who have or no little civics.

“The republicans are trying their hardest in a weaselly way to destroy America with amnesty. I want to know how much money they are getting to sell us out.”

All you have to do is read the website of the US Chamber of Commerce which supports slave labor.
https://www.uschamber.com/immigration

They are so focused on amnesty even their home page shows a smiling Hispanic. It is sad that a national organization supports outright lawbreaking.

The Boehner cohorts in the House think they will somehow get rich off amnesty from the C of C people who want cheap labor. I don’t understand just how it works, but as is often said, “Follow the money”. The American people can’t understand any of it.

GOP and “sellout” appear together in two out of three party headlines. But OH still likes Boehner; SC, Graham; TX, Cornball, and even MS, with Cochran.

Too late. Boener and those MFrs even entertaining the idea have doomed them. The illegals will NEVER vote conservative or republican and people like me are so disgusted at the republican leadership we won’t vote for them either.
