MOST of the people in San Francisco are NOT natives; they are in California and the Bay Area for work, not much else.

Does that include the queers, who come for the "ambiance"?

The odd thing about it is that with all the drilling to be TOLERANT, the state HAS become tolerant--so much so that MANY homosexuals have moved out of the San Francisco Bay Area and have scattered throughout the state. Many of THEM don't care to be in the Bay Area with the fog, high real estate prices, fog, windy cold SUMMERS and fog.
I have friends and family throughout the state and they inform me (not happily, I might add) that the "gay community" has spread throughout the ENTIRE state, even up north in the more conservative parts.

The infamous Castro District in San Francisco is FILLED with yuppies, actual straight male/female couples pushing baby carriages (Yes, I checked). I was away overseas for five years and was AMAZED to see all the straight white yuppies filling the once-all-homosexual area. The gays moved out because they COULD and found welcome mats all over the state.

Go figure. It really is all about money and jobs. California, Silicon Valley in the Bay Area, still has a ton of jobs for folks. We even get a ton of INDIANS (East) now flocking into the area because of all the computer jobs.

If I ever have computer problems and get on the phone to get help--it's usually an Indian who helps me. Some are local and some ARE from India.
VERY weird.
