As an employer I have to agree with you. Many companies won’t hire people older than 48. Partially because of the protected class rules making it very difficult to fire them.
I’ve found that some older people are pretty set in their ways and refuse to be flexible.
and shame on them sometimes I think we shoot ourselves in the foot because we get a bit rigid.
I can still remember in an interview being asked if how I graded my computer skills. I said I was average and they went ooooh (in a very sad way). SO I immediately said well I am not an object oriented programmer. The most current language I could program was a combination of Forth and advanced BASIC. I told them that as far as tool usage went I considered myself above average but not as proficient as the local assistant admin.
SOmetimes it is just perspective. I don’t think I am as good at computers as those who spend their lives writing code and designing them. But that shouldn’t have been the nature of the question.
