U.S. Grant would have either had these "Equal Opportunity Officers" (deservedly) shot by a firing squad ...
or else placed at the FRONT of the Infantry Line at Gettysburg.
Honestly ... I believe my FreeRepublic namesake (Gen. George Patton, Jr.) wopuld have had these "Commisar Goons" tranferred to the Russian Front, to be shot in the back by "professional" Political Commisars.

Far worse if it was Sherman. If he thought that all journalists should be shot because they are the 5th column, this would have had him burn down the Army HQ.
