My dad spent most of his military service in the 5th Army, (North Africa & Italy, 202mm cannon. He got a nasty case of trench foot, and came close to losing his feet. (Thank God for penicillin) Got to France, Belgium, and Germany during the last year of the war

BTW, when he came home and married my mom, they went to the doctor for the required blood tests.

When they went to the doctor for the results, the doctor looked at him and told him, that the army got his blood type wrong.

He went through the entire war with the wrong blood type on his dogtags.
