That certainly doesn't reflect my son or the many children I know in my life.I'm quite sure you'd get way different results, depending on what factors assembled the 'group of children'.

But I have yet to find anyone who can justify it from scripture.Kind of like a LOT of the things done in church.

I bet most Christians think Jesus was born on Christmas and that the wise men were there at his birth.I'm afraid you'd be RIGHT about THAT part!
Early embedded images from the surrounding society are VERY hard to erase.

>>We are perfectly free to coopt every pagan tradition and every substance in honor and celebration of the Christ, the crucified and risen One<<
Deuteronomy 12:30 Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise. 31 Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God

The Winter Solstice for we that reside in the Northern Hemisphere is the shortest day of sun light every year. This is the appointed time wherein Emmanuel = God with us was Divinely conceived. I see, and as you assert this as a fact, where is your substantiation for this, or are we to understand as corresponding to your screen name?
For me it is an attempt to not allow the personal emotions of any one individual to draw my attention from that remembrance. For God so loved the world .....
That motive is only affirmed, but so was David's in having the ark carried by men, but good motives alone (which some liberals share) do not validate actions.

Doesn't sound like she was wrong about that, though. ;o) Smile:) While many others will criticize her for her conscientious stand another will criticized her for saying she will be criticized!

As to your last question, my church does not hold a traditional Christmas Service. What we do is ask our attendees to go out in serve those in need and organize opportunities for them to do so.

The article sounds like someone who cant afford fancy gifts and wants to justify not buying presents because the Holy Spirit told her to do it. That may be your interpretation, by which attribution of motive you impugn her argument, in supporting your position due to motive (which is not to be impugned) and thus proudly displaying your Santa on the mantle.
But that is certainly not my motive, and i think my position is far more consistent with NT Christianity sola scriptura than Christianizing distinctively pagan holydays, and basically making observing the yearly observance of Rome mandatory.
