this thing had 2 user accounts, does that mean the second account might have programs I cannot see?
If the account you are logged on under is the administrator of the machine there should be no problem if running a complete scan.
If you are running the quick scan, then you may need to run it again as the second user.
Since I cannot see your actual account security settings the above is general. YMMV.
I wanted to delete the Temporary Internet Files of the other user account and it said no.

this folder... this insanely large folder.
is called windows.old.000 and it is 20.5GB and contains more than 126,000 files.

so that folder seems to be close to a third or more of the whole freaking size of the used hdd
I know I was warned not to interfere with Malware Bytes but I am pausing it and am going to delete windows.old.000

OK. This machine was upgraded from Vista to Windows 7?
The windows.old file is the back up of all your previous files and settings. Deleting it shouldn’t harm anything if you have been using Win 7 for awhile and don’t seem to missing anything.

Malware Bytes seems to have done the job.
CPU was being eaten up just sitting idle now it idles at 0-1%.
You should try resetting all the settings on your IE and dumping all the add-ons and toolbars. Make sure to dump all your temporary internet files too.

I also had to delete windows.old.000 because it was over 20 gb. That is just insane.

Now, with your wifi turned off, open your internet browser and make sure its start page is set to google.com or any other site you like. Otherwise, your browser may still be set to redirect you to a site that will download the same stuff all over again.
Next, go to microsoft.com and search for microsoft security essentials. Download and install it. Then, from within your malwarebytes program, upgrade to the pro version. It will cost about $25, but it will intercept most malware before it can do any harm.
Check the malwarebytes log everyday for the next week or so.
If you are using Internet Explorer, make sure you are using the latest version or use Google Chrome or Firefox.

Looks like everything worked. It speeds up nicely with Norton off too.
Glad it worked out. I would suggest running it again in about a week just to make sure and make sure that your PC security/virus software is up to date.
