I believe, to date, I have seen 2 Chevy volts in public. Granted, I would have to “notice” them as I am not looking for them. And for all I know, it could have been the same one. The volt is a dismal failure. Worse, I believe it is hurting the evolution, design and quality of their other vehicles (like their trucks).
I predict the next GM bailout in 2016 right at about election time. We’ll get to save them all over again.
IMO, along with the low mileage per charge, it’s the exorbitant $$$ for a new battery.
Cadillac ELR - the Cimarron for the 21st century.
Is she any good, or is this just a PR/Affirmative Action stunt by Government Motors?
I saw a Volt yesterday, for the first time. To my right there was a car at the stoplight that was so stubby in the front my first impression was that it was going to drive backwards. On the other hand, there is a Tesla in the neighborhood that looks pretty nice.
“The taxpayer subsidy in the form of the $7,500 tax credit should be done away with and let all the companies stand on their own with electric vehicles.”
Absolutely.
The new owners of the Tesla in this area would probably fall into the 1% category, and we are partially funding their feel good Tesla’s.
You can’t polish the turd that is GM.
Doesn’t matter General Motors won’t survive. Inefficient management structure will see to thatl
Was she handpicked by a car czar too?
/sarc
and GM should also pay the same taxes other car companies pay too
The real question is whether the buyer will be on the hook with the IRS for the $7,500 like they were when they were when they took 'Ca$h for Clunkers'...
My first salary job at Ford Motor Company was quality liason with American Sunroof Company which turned 1978 Ford Granadas into Lincoln Versailles
(or as we called them no sales). My last assignment at Ford was launch leader of the Lincoln Blackwood which I refer to as the Lincoln Titanic. It was prescribed for the company by the terrorist, aka Jac Nasser. It was a limited edition of 18000 of which only about 900 were ever built. My africanhyphenamerican boss on that program, another Nasser legacy, didn’t cause me to retire, but he helped me make the decision. Its not just GM whete the “stars” shine.
The luxury carmakers Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Porsche, VW have all introduced diesels, at several thousand above gasoline engines, including at the top of their lines.
They also have hybrids coming into more of their models lines.
Market acceptance is proving people will pay for the latest and fuel efficient technology.
So Cadillac division is doing what the American manufacturers have been doing lately which is following.
For GM, amortizing the Volt technology development over more vehicles, some at luxury prices, yields a better financial result.
The Volt is an Hybrid, not strictly all electric. Audi has won 24 Hours of Le Mans with diesel, and with Hybrid.
More hybrid is being introduced into the drivetrains of Formula 1 racecars, because of the role it will likely play in future vehicles.
