They’re taking their sweet ass time developing on MCP, Forge, and a host of other texture packs. Mojang made some HUGE changes to the game code, and these recreational coders can’t keep up. I can’t help but think they didn’t do it on purpose?
I’ve got a 1.7.2 vanilla server setup, and I will say I’m not disappointed with the changes they made. The biome changes were huge, and I really like how they’ve made biome transitions more subtle. I used to hate going from a jungle into an ice wasteland. Made no sense. I’m also glad they pared back the subterranean structure generation. I was getting tired of the endless mineshafts in 1.6.4.
“I wonder if there is a Linux variant (I use Ubuntu) that would fit on a 1gb usb? Most small ones need at least 2 I think. They need twice as much room as they take up I think.”
Try Puppy Linux, it is tiny, but quite functional. It is more primitive than Ubuntu or Mint, but it is the best thing I have tried for older machines with no hard drive and limited RAM. I use it to rescue files from corrupted Windows machines.
Ditto that. I have Linux Mint 12 installed and really like it. Also managed to install WINE on it which runs my amateur radio programs too.
I still don't know what Cinnamon and MATE is. I'm familiar with the KDE interface (don't care for it.)
Man... tried out HL2 last night to see if it would work (older game and all).. It was almost flawless... about 20x faster (loading) than it was on Win, back in the day... and I forgot how much I loved that game :D
For how old it is, it is still better than most of the crud that comes out anymore... and it was taxing the heck out of my vidcard (nVid GTX470).. pushed it up to 104C.. >.<
Finally looked at the clock.. been on 12 hours, at least... figured I should let my card rest.. and me too ;^)
Only issue I had, was fighting with Linux over permissions of the *.sh (bash) o.O lol :)
Anyway, have a good one ;^)
