Listen, powerboats are GREAT escape pods, they just are not going to cross oceans the wide way. Diesels are best, fuel lasts longer. A seaworthy powerboat with a 200 mile range can make South America island hopping. Of course, that assumes that fuel is for sale and you have the cash etc. But you could drive a Bertram to Rio.

To those posters who are wishing and waiting for their retirements to live the cruising dream, try taking your retirement now - while you are healthy and strong. You will not need as many ‘amenities’ on board your chosen vessel - items that tend to break down and cause excessive time in ports waiting for parts or mechanics.

You can go with a smaller, more basic boat. you will not rely on crew, as many older ‘retired’ couples have to do.

Children will get more education from a year at sea than any year they spend in a classroom.
