Yep, God speed and good luck to them. If we account ourselves well when the time comes, it will be very worth while.

Start with the beer and the bimini, you will need them while arranging the wind vane.

You can sail from Florida to South America with nothing but a compass. That’s enough, more is better but not required.

Go find one particular pebble in the desert. I’ll give you a picture of the pebble, and you have one hour.

That’s finding a boat on the ocean.

That one’s easy - “Straight south” (with maybe a detour around Cuba).

Amen. And I can’t believe it’s been 40 years since Barbados and Martinique etc.

My new motto is,

“Now all my thrills are vicarious.”

That’s why I write stories.

... head to port ...

Took me a few seconds to realize that didn't mean "proceed to the harbor".

Oh, those Maine islands! We passed some beauties on Penobscot Bay last July, during the vacation of a lifetime with a few days spent onboard the 3-masted schooner Victory Chimes!

But even a morning in a kayak brings back your connection to the sea, I’ll bet!

Or pour a few shots of rotgut rum over their gills. Gives them a happy goodbye blast and they never move a muscle.

Matt, you may take full credit for that line. I stand on the shoulders of a giant. Matt Bracken is an American treasure. Anybody who hasn’t read every word he’s published is a cityfied unamerican moronic pansy.

The gulfstar is a solid boat. I did a lot of work to it over the past couple years. New rigging, roller furling, canvas, full batten loose footed main and mizzen, new genny. I like the ketch rig. Easy to sail. I single handed it all the time. I’d keep it but I got hurt last spring and have a hard time sailing now. That’s why I’m getting the trawler.

A lot of great deals out there now. A friend of mine just picked up a 1997 Hallberg-Rassey 46 for $180k. The boat sold for $340 two years ago.
