Schultz: Republicans Hide Behind 'Plastic Jesus'
Truth Revolt ^ | 11/5/2013 | Elisha Krauss

During his 'Ask Ed Live' segment on Tuesday's The Ed Show, Ed Schultz had a question via Twitter asking, "What do Christian values mean to Republicans?" He responded saying he believes Christian values exist, but that politicians use them to justify what they want to win.

"...when you put it to politicians and political operatives, it now becomes a crutch to justify anything they want in the political arena connected to scripture, and oftentimes they turn out to be totally hypocritical."

He concluded saying that 'Christian values' to Republicans are just a stepping stone to get what they want in politics.

"they hide behind their plastic Jesus..."

The term 'plastic Jesus' is usually used as a derogatory statement about fake Christians or Christians who only look to faith when they want something for themselves. It was also the title of an American folk song in the 1960s.

As opposed to voting against your Christian values?

I am 48 and can’t recall a single politician even saying the name Jesus.

Very odd. I don’t disagree with Schultz on this point. I would add that it happens in both parties. Pelosi is a “Catholic” on Sunday and professes that abortion is the holy grail of progressive politics? Religious zealots and fanatics of any stripe are off putting to all but the same.

Government should be about the business of the people and limited in scope to that defined in the Constitution. Politicians from both parties make the public argument about social issues to divide the electorate while they busy themselves fleecing the public treasure while we argue.

“...but that politicians use them to justify what they want to win.”

His point is not limited to Christianity. For instance, gay marriage is one issue that the pols used to win voters this past election.

With lifetime politicians they will say whatever they think you need to hear to vote for them.

as opposed to, say, the Clintons, who prominently lugged the family Bible to Foundry Methodist for plenty of photo ops during his reign

Hillary’s campaign will surely bring a return to real Christian values

It’s an axiom. Whatever the Democrats are accusing the Republicans of doing is what the Democrats themselves are doing.
