WH refuses to confirm Obama didn't know until a few weeks ago NSA spied on German Chanc ph

The White House refused on Monday to confirm a report that President Obama first learned this summer that the U.S. was spying on German Chancellor Angela Merkel's cell phones.

Press Secretary Jay Carney whiffed on a perfectly teed-up chance to legitimize a Wall Street Journal story that also had Obama ending the National Security Agency program immediately when he learned that the agency was surveiling foreign leaders.

Addressing questions about alleged U.S. spying on Merkel, Carney would only say that 'we do not and will not monitor the chancellor’s communications.'

Obama reportedly denied it during a phone call Wednesday with Merkel herself.

But Carney was more vague on the famed Watergate-era question of what the president knew, and when he knew it.

'I'm not going to get into details of internal discussions,' Carney said Monday. 'But the president clearly feels strongly about making sure that we are not just collecting information because we can, but because we should.'

Ultimately, Carney admitted, 'we recognize there needs to be additional constraints on how we gather and use intelligence.'

That position reflects a dramatic turn away from previous administrations, none of which has ever admitted the scope of U.S. foreign surveillance or suggested that its spying should be trimmed back.

I guarantee every briefing document is archived and somebody will find out they lied. Hopefully, after lying about Obamacare they’re getting a little more savvy about coming up with the right answer the first time.

It is impossible to believe that no one, at any time, at least TRIED to inform the Current Occupant now squatting in the White Hut (or “Spite Hut”). Perhaps he was out golfing and had the pager turned off EVERY time?

Clapping your hands over your ears, dancing from one foot to the other and loudly shouting out “LA-LA-LA-LA” over and over is pretty close to trying to remain willfully ignorant.
