“I go to bed every night and get up every morning thinking about how I can create more jobs in this country and frankly, I don’t think it can be done.”
I pity today’s college graduates having to search for a job.
In 1964 I had my first interviews with companies like Union Carbide, ESSO, SOCAL and others when I was only a Junior. Was flown (First Class) from campus to their offices and I was wined and dined at each interview.
In my senior year, there were even more recruiters falling all over themselves trying to hire me. And I was NOT top of my class.
It was great to live in America and be an American.
In 1967, on a Thursday, I made a long distance call to an American company in Europe for an interview and two weeks later (after quitting my job in the US) I knocked on the door of their Personnel Department (it is now called Hooman Resources) and an hour later I was assigned an office where I unpacked my books and sliderule. Egad, things were so intensely swinging in the engineering business.
I had to have wheels so I took the afternoon off to purchase my British-racing-green MGB. Tooled around with my tonneau cover firmly in place just to look cool.
Sigh. Elections have consequences.
