Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in an interview that aired Sunday dismissed criticism from his congressional colleagues, saying that he was "not remotely" upset that party leaders had chastised him over a legislative strategy many believe forced the 16-day government shutdown.
"I dont work for the party bosses in Washington. I work for the people of Texas, and I fight for them, Cruz told CNN's "State of the Union."
Look, the reason people are frustrated all over the country is that far too many people get elected and they think theyre there to be part of the club, he continued.
Cruz said the his colleagues' willingness to accept ObamaCare as the status quo was the reason that congressional approval ratings had fallen to record lows.
"There are a lot of politicians in Washington who want to put ObamaCare behind us," Cruz said. "They want to say, 'No more. No more discussing ObamaCare.' The American people are not satisfied with that."
He also accused some Senate Republicans of duplicitous behavior, insinuating that what they said on television or in town halls differed from what they told him behind closed doors.
What I say privately to my colleagues is the same thing I say publicly, he said. And you know whats interesting? Virtually every person in that room that was criticizing what [Sen.] Mike Lee [(R-Utah)] and I were doing would have said very different things if a camera was in this room. Because what theyre telling their constituents is very different from what theyre saying behind closed doors.
Many Republicans, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), have flatly ruled out forcing another government shutdown over ObamaCare. But Cruz again refused to rule it out.
There will be time enough to talk about specific strategies, specific tactics, he said.
The Texas lawmaker insisted that the reason his strategy failed was not because the GOP was outgunned by a Democratic majority in the Senate and President Obama in the White House.
"The reason this failed was simple: Senate Republicans didn't unite," Cruz said.
Imagine if Senate Republicans had come together, had united and stood side-by-side with House Republicans and had said, were with the American people. We want to fund our government. We want to fund every aspect of our government, but we want to answer the American people who are being hurt because of Obamacare, he said. We would have ended up with a very different result.
I’m thinking about all things competitive, for example the so called Twitter competition that is being waged between the number of Cruz re-tweets and those of Obama. The media is watching that are’nt they?
Are we needing to go Twitter in greater numbers before we can own the messaging war? I have read nothing indicating that we have come close t matching the Marxist ground game for contacting the masses.
“I predict the Dems will throw millions of dollars to Senator Cruz challenger in 2018 and Cruz will win in a landslide.”
Don’t forget, we have a bum rush of northeastern and left
coast slime tards, moving to Texas with full intent to
foul and pollute the political system here.
Ted Cruz Ping!
If you want on/off this ping list, please let me know.
Please beware, this is a high-volume ping list!
I hope you’re right. If he keeps up with his conservative stance I’ll be out getting votes for him. (See, sad I don’t trust any of them, not even the good ones, after all the pretend-conservatives)
