HOUSTON At a Get Covered America forum in Houston on Saturday, Latinos who have permanent resident status, also known as green cards, were instructed in Spanish on how to apply for U.S. citizenship and were encouraged to enroll in the Affordable Care Act.
The two-hour Neighborhood Centers Citizenship and Immigration Forum attracted more than 100 people, all of whom appeared Latino.
Hosted at a community center in a low-income area of The Heights neighborhood, the forum was billed on the Get Covered America website as outreach to people in the community who are seeking citizenship status and would like information about the benefits of the new health reform law.
Benito Juarez, an immigrant and refugee affairs official for the city of Houston, said in an interview with The College Fix that the event was primarily focused on assisting those who already have permanent resident status with the U.S. citizenship process.
Get Covered America representatives, who advertised the forum on their website, were also on hand, encouraging attendees in Spanish to enroll in the nations new health-care program, as permanent U.S. residents reportedly qualify for federally subsidized health insurance under the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.
Only 20 minutes into the start of the 10 a.m. forum and the centers parking lot was already packed. A street sign written in Spanish directed visitors toward additional parking. Guests were handed a large stack of paperwork as they entered the building.
Members of nonprofit vendors at the event spoke mostly Spanish to attendees, who were ushered from table to table to learn more about the process to become a U.S. citizen. One table offered brochures with information from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Another next to it featured forms in both Spanish and English highlighting alleged benefits of the Affordable Care Act.
Get Covered America is the nonprofit publicity and recruitment arm of Enroll America, which aims to maximize the number of uninsured Americans who enroll in health coverage made available by the Affordable Care Act, according to its website.
As people at the forum milled about, paperwork in hand, a Houston Police Department officer addressed the crowd in Spanish. On a stage that loomed above the crowd, local lawyers provided pro bono counsel and assistance with citizenship forms.
After participants were finished with their citizenship paperwork, they were directed to a separate table run by Get Covered America representatives, who provided them with bilingual Obamacare brochures, asked them questions about household income and family size, and obtained their contact information to send them further information about the enrollment process.
Yes, but the more important question is are they mandated to?
Ahhhhh......they can still be used to say, “It isn’t enough!” as they continue to flood emergency rooms.....m-u-s-t g-o t-o -FREE-s-i-n-g-l-e p-a-y-e-r-healthcare for all.

Does anyone else remember that Obama had said that illegals would not be covered under Obamacare? This was before the law was passed, as part of the crazy national debate on healthcare leading up to the law’s passage. I remember something about how people were concerned that illegals would take advantage of this, and Obama assured us that illegals would not be covered.
Of course, Obama also said that if you like your doctor and healthplan, that you could keep them. Obama also said that average healthcare costs would drop by $2500 per family.
Lots of false and misleading things were said in the debate on healthcare before Nancy Pelosi told us we have to pass the bill to see what’s in it.
Do we still know everything in the law? With 2000 pages of Obamacare law, plus about 10,000 pages of regulations issued by HHS to administer this law, is anyone really an expert on what the heck this law really requires?????
The worst part about this law is that they make it up as they go! What is in it today is not in it the next. It is definitely illegal from where it originated and it is also illegal as to how they have made many changes without congress after it was passed.

Representative Franks has introduced a resolution (H.R. 153) expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that the Obamacare legislation clearly violated the Origination Clause. The measure is gaining momentum. As it rapidly picks up co-signers, the resolution should materially advance the cases filed against Obamacare, including one to be argued this fall in the D.C. Circuit federal appeals court. After all, if a statute violates the Origination Clause, it is a nullity invalid from the moment of enactment.
Nevertheless, Republicans should not make the same mistake they made during prior legal challenges to Obamacare. This is not a time for leaders once again to sit idly by with fingers crossed, praying that judges do the heavy lifting for them. The legerdemain that characterized Obamacares passage, coupled with its patent lack of constitutional legitimacy, should stiffen the resolve of the House to refuse funding as it is the Houses prerogative to do.
Once again, the president is not telling the truth about Obamacare. The Supreme Court did not endorse it. The Supreme Court said it could only conceivably be sustained as a tax. It still had to pass the Constitutions tests for valid taxation. It failed.
Wonder if the members of nonprofit vendors will take the show on the road to China it’s about the only way to get enough names to keep Obamacare alive.
