Salon lives for left wing trash talk and ruining reputations for fun and profit. It's pretty amazing , yet understandable, that they hate Roger Ailes so badly. Theirs is a world of bitter haters, and Fox is full of cheerful, happy people. Fox is an empire and you can't even wrap fish in their product.In short, they are the kinds of unhappy people seen so often on Morning Joe and other MSNBC “Hit shows.” Not, mind you, hits in the sense of something successful, but the kind of snide smirk of self satisfaction when they think they have made a clever argument.

I met Roger Ailes in 1972 after having attended the Republican National Convention, held in Miami Beach that year. There I had a chance meeting with the legendary F. Clifton White who had been an advisor to Barry Goldwater and others. Not long after returning to Washington I had a call from Cliff White and he invited me to have lunch with him and a guest he wanted me to meet. It was Roger Ailes, then a producer, I believe, of the Donohue TV show out of Philadelphia. He was also advising President Nixon on media affairs. There were very few republicans in that era who had any connection to media, but Ailes was well on his way to changing that.
