Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said he might not be good at calculus, but he knows how to legislate.
Reid told The Huffington Post that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is smart, but he cant outmaneuver the 26-year veteran in the halls of Congress.
He might be able to work a calculus problem better than I can, Reid said Thursday. But he can't legislate better than I can."
Reid and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) are credited with brokering the deal that ended the government shutdown.
Reid said the Houses decision to go along with a deal to end the shutdown after 16 days and raise the nations borrowing limit was a message to the freshman senators, asking: What the hell are you doing?
Cruz, along with a number of other GOP lawmakers, had pushed a tactic to use government funding as leverage to extract Democratic concessions on ObamaCare. Many within Cruzs own party had criticized the plan as doomed to failure.
Reid said Cruz is a laughing stock to everybody but him and said he pitied the GOP if the party saw him as a viable nominee for president in 2016.
Reid echoed comments he has made before, asserting the Harvard-educated Senate freshman has a tendency to talk down to people, which does not work in the Senate.
"Ted Cruz is smart," Reid said. "He has always been able to talk down to people. He is now in the Senate. People are as smart as he is. He can't talk down to anyone anymore. But he has still not accepted that in his own head. He still thinks he's smarter than everybody else."
Reid made almost an identical statement to Esquire magazine during the government shutdown earlier this month.
Reid is the one that "talks down" to people (as well as being known for demeaning another senator on the floor of the senate and suggesting his first-hand knowledge of the federal tax returns of a presidential candidate from the other party).
His passive-aggressive personality is off the charts.
It's also how he keeps his explosive temper in check.
reid, Cruz is way younger than you old man
you will never beat Cruz, just saying
LOL Cruz will outlive Reid by decades.
It is entirely possible to legislate yourself into a civil war.
FUHR!!!
1 trillion dollar annual deficit is equal to 1.7 million dollars/minute added to the debt. Great Job Harry!!! Nice Legislating......idiot.
“Where are we going, and why are we in this handbasket?”
Reid is proudly on record saying that he wants a single payer healthcare system.
Red: “I am a better gangster”.
Well, until they slam the cell door shut nehind him.
Reid has a real boner for Cruz.

Without a media to protect democrats, most of them, would be in prison.
What an evil little man Reid is.
What a strange thing for a powerful man to say in public.
“It is entirely possible to legislate yourself into a civil war.”
That’s a fact.
So, Reid isn't just a megalomaniac, he is also mathematically illiterate? God help us.
Yes, I know the proper word is "innumerate."
Ted Cruz is smart," Reid said. "He has always been able to talk down to people. He is now in the Senate. People are as smart as he is. He can't talk down to anyone anymore. But he has still not accepted that in his own head. He still thinks he's smarter than everybody else."
Reid, the master of talking down to people, accuses Cruz of talking down? Excuse me?
It is a fact that when you are smarter than most people you encounter, and you are trying to explain something so they will understand, you are constrained to using words equal to their ability to understand them. That is not, in fact, talking down to people--rather, it means you are trying to communicate with them. That Reid senses that Cruz must phrase his message in terms he and other senators can understand must really irk Reid, since his estimate of his own intelligence is a few dozen points higher than it actually is. (If he were intelligent, he wouldn't be a liberal and wouldn't push the socialist agenda.)
Latter Day Ain’t Harry Reid doesn’t realize that his GOP supporters got exposed as liberals....and won’t be able to help him in the future...esp after they are primaried
Very well said.
“Without a media to protect democrats, most of them, would be in prison.”
Yup.
