It did make Sgt. Saunders look cooler than anyone else. And the Thompson was a lot cooler than a Garand.

Some apologists have said it wasn't a standard helmet cover, but rather one Saunders improvised from D-Day camo parachutes.

But it was a standard helmet cover.

IIRC, the only helmet “cover” that was allowed in the ETO was the net that allowed for vegitation and other camo to be applied.
