Can anyone tell me if to get to Mt. Rushmore one has to be on the Interstate, or is it a State route.

It seems to me that if it is on a State route, the governor could legitimately close the route to these Federal employees who are shutting down the parks. Which means, that if the employees are not already there they could be blocked from getting there. Or, if they are already there, they could be trapped inside the Federal park and if they were to try to leave over the State route, they would technically be trespassing.

Think about it. The Obama government parses words, meanings and flouts the law, so why not the State governors.

IMHO. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

It's way off any Interstate...you get off at Rapid City, drive thru town and go up a state or county road to the entrance. As a "National Memorial", your gold national park pass doesn't get you in for free as it would a National Park.

There are good views from outside the pay/parking entrance, but I don't see how any government goons could stop you from parking roadside.

It’s on state 244. If you go around to the side, you can see it in profile from the roadway.

I believe it is a state route, HWY 16 to HWY 244.

All highways in a state are owned by the state, regardless of designation. This includes US and Interstate highways. They may have federal funding, but the state owns them.

Frankly, I'm surprised that Barky and his minions haven't tried to close the entire interstate highway system!
