I sat down and watched President Obama's speech today on Obamacare and wondered if he was going to lash out at Republicans for the (non) government shutdown. As I fought the rising bile and oncoming nausea I always experience hearing our liar-in-chief, I was not disappointed. Obama's speech is a textbook example torn from the liberal progressive handbook.
He started off with a painful "is this on?" bit about the microphone, just showing how much of an amateur he is on the big stage. He then immediately launched into attacking the Republicans for the government shutdown (I like the term "slimdown" that I've heard bandied around the net) and specifically went after the conservative wing of the party. You know, the only group that hasn't fallen to their knees in abject worship of him. He trotted out the same old lies of how mean Republicans are, how government workers won't be able to pay their mortgages, and how they want to deny people health care. It's hysterical as he holds them solely accountable for the government slimdown despite the fact that he refuses to negotiate or talk with them at all. Guess you have to be a leader of a terrorist-sponsoring country to get a call from Obama. This attack mode is standard Alinksy tactics that all liberal progressives use. Since facts and reason aren't on your side, then go for the personal attack and make it all about them.
Obama continued following the liberal progressive playbook as he makes up facts to fit his narrative. He said that he had cut the deficit in half since coming into office. Are you kidding me? Obama has as much debt racked up (roughly $6.5 trillion) than Bush did in eight years. The deficit reduction is sleight-of-hand in talking about the current fiscal year budget projections that assumes somewhat rosy projections. If Obamacare is fully implemented, the economy will be in shambles and you'll see the actual budget numbers skyrocket in deficit spending.
For his final act, Obama used the tried-and-true liberal progressive tactic of the sob story. He had the usual human props standing behind him during his speech, who all had some tear-jerking story of how Obamacare will save them. Whenever a liberal can't twist the facts, they'll use emotion to get you to agree with them. "It's for the children" is a familiar refrain from them. The goal is to make conservatives look like ogres who want to kill grandma and throw the baby to the wolves. Reality is far different as conservatives want opportunity and liberty for everybody whilst liberal progressives want people solely dependent (and thus, under the control of) the state.
Nothing of consequence was said during Obama's speech. The pattern was his usual one when speaking. Blame others, twist facts, and showcase some tearful human interest stories. Sadly, this will be the mantra that the media will push upon the American public and the low information voters will lap it up.
More like a tin horn Banana Republic dictator, actually. Is he watching old Castro and Hitler speeches again for pointers? He’s becoming a master, and his audience bleats their approval, just like in the old days! Bob
You deserve a medal and probably a bonus. I quit watching this won a long time ago. My stomach and brain just could not handle it.
Thank you for your brave dedication.
If the gov’s shut down, how come this POS is on my tv giving a speech?
First, are you aware of the Founding States' division of federal and state powers, such powers evidenced by the Constitution's Section 8 of Article I, Article V and the 10th Amendment?
Next, are you aware that before activist justices decided that unconstitutional Obamacare was constitutional in 2012 that previous geneations of justices had clarified that the states have never delegated to the federal government, via the Constitution, the speciific power to regulate, tax and spend for public healthcare purposes. This is evidenced by the following excerpts from case opinions.
"State inspection laws, health laws, and laws for regulating the internal commerce of a State, and those which respect turnpike roads, ferries, &c. are not within the power granted to Congress. (emphases added)" --Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824."Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States." --Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
"Inspection laws, quarantine laws, health laws of every description (emphasis added), as well as laws for regulating the internal commerce of a state and those which respect turnpike roads, ferries, &c., are component parts of this mass." --Justice Barbour, New York v. Miln, 1837.
Direct control of medical practice in the states is obviously (emphasis added) beyond the power of Congress. Linder v. United States, 1925.
I watched the human props gather ‘round at O’s photo-op today. I assume they were a selection of parasite government bureaucrats of the “non-essential” type who would be furloughed. 3/4s of them were at least 30 pounds overweight. We should take away their food stamps, and put them on diet and exercise. They illustrate what is wrong with this over-grabbing Federal government.
If you think his speech was funny you should read the letter he sent to all furloughed government workers today. I was howling with laughter as my girl friend read it to me. I begged her to let me scan it so I could post it here but she absolutely refused, fearful of possible recriminations.
It’s on whitehut.gov
not like it’s a big secret
Au contraire! It was a speech designed for his lapdog media, who now have their talking points synchronized with the White House's; and for low information Rio Linda voters. It was world-class demagoguery worthy of a Juan or Eva Peron.
No no no no...NOT furloughed.
That’s the progressive way of changing the definitions and words so they can weasel out of reality. See, by calling them furloughed, the govt doesn’t have to explain their necessity.
They are NON-ESSENTIAL workers. So please, I beg you, don’t call them furloughed. Call them what they are. And correct others to do the same.
Thank you.
/now back to regularly scheduled commentary on Obather’s bloviating
“Obama’s Speech Was Textbook Liberal Progressive”
So.....what else is new?
Good, Thanks. It got a little tense between me and the GF this am. New employee and scared to death she will do something wrong.
Well I can understand that. Jobs aren’t easy to find these days so she’s probably being careful.
I’m retired but when I see guys I used to work with, nobody wants to talk about business. It’s too ugly. The dearth of decent jobs gives all the leverage to the employer.
“You deserve a medal and probably a bonus. I quit watching this won a long time ago. My stomach and brain just could not handle it.
Thank you for your brave dedication.”
I did have to sit down and have a beer afterwards. Eventually the pain in my head eased down to just a dull ache.
Want to see the speech he should have given?

... President Obama should have been more honest... Here is the transcript of the speech he never gave:
...
I dont know if youve noticed, but Ive been talking about health-care reform a little lately. [Laughter.] I want to set the record straight on a few things today.
Republicans are out there scaring folks, and saying that theyll lose their insurance. [Boos, jeers.] No, no hey, just because they dont care about people doesnt mean they are wrong about everything. [Laughter, applause.]
And theyre right about this. Some folks are going to lose their insurance. Millions of them, in fact.
Let me be clear: Just because you have insurance you like, doesnt mean you can keep it. If it doesnt meet the new federal standards, your plan is going to get canceled. I guarantee it.
Some of my political advisers say, Hey, you cant go out and tell people that, Obama. It doesnt test well. People hate it in the polls.
And you know what I told them? I . . . dont . . . care . . . about . . . the polls. [Applause]
I said: Thats the old politics. Thats whats wrong with Washington, DC, right there. If you think Im going to go out and lie about my plan, youve got the wrong guy. What did you think hope and change were all about? [Laughter, applause.]
So, yeah, some of you are going to lose your insurance. Now, because of the marketplace well set up, youre going to go online and shop for new insurance. Some of you are going to get a better deal. If you dont make much money, youre going to get help from the government. [Cheers.]
But let me be clear again and Axelrod hates this part [Laughter] many of you are going to pay more than you did before. Maybe double. Because all of these new regulations cost money. You dont believe in a free lunch, do you? [Confused murmurs.]
What were proposing is to get young, healthy people onto the exchanges so they can subsidize everyone else, by buying coverage they dont want or need at a price that is higher than before. Why would they do that, you ask? [Faint laughter.] Thats what the individual mandate is all about. Weve got to force them.
As for the doctor you like, you might not be able to keep him or her, either. [Murmurs.] If you have to change your plan, your doctor may not be in the network. And to try to keep costs down, the networks in the exchanges are really narrow. By the way, top hospitals probably arent going to accept a lot of plans from the exchanges, either.
Some of my friends on my side of the aisle try to minimize all this. They say that the bill has a grandfather clause. Wait until you see the regulations we write on that one there will barely be a grandfather clause left. They say that only the 5 percent of people who get their insurance through the individual market will lose their plans. But thats still millions of people.
Now, I can hear some of you right now saying that universal coverage is worth it. [Yeah.] But lets be careful about that. The respected Congressional Budget Office says under my plan tens of millions of people will still be uninsured in 2020.
So thats why I wanted to come here today, St. Paul. I wanted to tell you the hard truths. I know you can handle them. [Isolated clapping.] I know you will still support my plan, which, admittedly, is a little complicated. But we put a man on the moon! Theres no way were going to mess up a health-care law. Not on my watch.
