I have my own well (7 inch steel casing) and the water level is at about 75 feet below grade. It has always occurred to me that in an extended emergency, I could disconnect and haul out my electrical submersible pump and then design something that could be used to haul out pails of water by hand. Alternatively, I’m wondering if there is some sort of positive displacement pump that could be dropped into the well but operated at ground level by hand using ropes. I would just transfer over the pipe from the electrical submersible pump to this temporary one to bring up the water. Has anyone ever seen this done? It would seem that the problem would be to keep the pump stable so that it wouldn’t be flopping all over the place since it would just be suspended at the end of a heavy duty plastic pipe.
75 feet, you can get a regular hand pump for that depth.
You could probable put it in without having to remove your other pump.
There are lots of basic pumps/piping that you could buy now for a kilobuck, and then upgrade when you have the time, to solar/battery, or other powered options.

Just Google "DIY Well Bucket".
A well bucket is a device well drillers use to pull water from a well before a pump is installed.
You can buy them or make one.
