Stealth Socialism: Ghost Cities And Fake Paris, London, Manhattan (Moral Hazard Gone Wild!)
Confounded Interest ^ | 09/22/2013 | Anthony B. Sanders

There is no doubt about it. The Obama-era represents what Rep. Alan Grayson calls “stealth Socialism” – the government takeover of the bond market (The Fed), the healthcare system (Obamacare) and forced integration of suburbs (HUD Secretary Donovan’s plan).

In that respect, the US is becoming more and more like China where their central planners have been busy building massive cities where no one can afford to live.

China even has a replica of London (Thames Town)

and Paris.

And an abandoned, fake DisneyWorld!

Not to mention Manhattan.

Of course, China’s population is growing and eventually housing units will be required. But does ANY of this make sense? Sure, if cronies are involved. Chinese officials sell occupied land to developers who evict the people using, in some cases, brute force.

China certainly has a construction bubble.

This has spawned the term “nail houses” where development is so fast that they sometimes don’t bother to respect the rights of the people.

This is my favorite nail house in China. They just built the road around the house.

So when people scream in the US about the need for high speed rail (like in California according to CalWatchDog.com), think of the moral hazard problems in China of oppressive government and crony communism. Or crony capitalism.

Rep. Alan Grayson used to represent Orlando FL before redistricting. I hope that his knowledge of Epcot doesn’t lead him to want to build ghost cities in the US.

Perhaps we could demolish Detroit and build a replica of … Shanghai! With government cronyism, anything is possible.

The outright waste of commodities in general on a boondoggle such as this is appalling.

To say nothing of how this served to drive up commodity prices in general all these years.

This is why I laugh when some idiot suggests how wasteful we are here in this country.

it's the ONLY way it makes any sense... theft of government funds.

these structures will rot, decay and crumble with NO ROI at all... now if they forced people to live in them, even at the point of a gun, it might make sense, maybe, but this is simple theft and waste on a scale never before heard of

Yes. That is what happens when any central bank [even our own!] lowers interest rates on command. Commodities and labor are wasted on projects that consumers don't want.

It's just one of the "features" of government-caused inflation.
