I don’t think we’re being thin skinned at all about this.

Ahh, but you are.

Very good! I agree with all you said in your posting, and that includes the interesting items posted about Asia doings from TexGrill.

Why, thank you!

I don’t think it is a matter of being thin skinned.

It is. And I pointed it out in a civil manner.

We cannot be consistent and on the one hand mock everything about Obama and McCain in this forum (and enjoy it), and then — all of a sudden — assert the authority of the Queensbury Rules for civil discussion when suddenly one of “our guys” is treated to the same treatment.

Full disclosure: I enjoy the slams on Obama and McCain as much as anyone. Moreover, I suspect I like Greg Abbott as much as anyone. However, I have to admit Tex’s post of Abbott’s alleged cry for police protection quite good humor!

Disagree. It's one thing to criticize a candidate for their record, their agenda, their alliances, or their politics. It's quite another to just throw ad hominem bombs at them.

It's the sort of juvenile behavior that passes for intellectual discourse among liberals. We don't normally tolerate that sort of stupidity here. At least not for very long.

Well, we must agree to disagree my FRiend. There is a difference. The people that mock McCain/Obama are probably not “visiting” the board.

As I’m sure you know, very often people come to a website with an agenda, sometimes paid for their efforts. I feel sure you know politics as well as I do and know that often a candidate is promoted over another...not just for the candidate’s sake, but possibly to knock out a stronger candidate that might defeat the Dem opposition. Happens all the time.

I’m not invoking any rules for civil discussion. After all we are discussing politics, lol. I don’t mind the debates that go on or the poking fun at different people. I do become annoyed when there appears to be an agenda.

This might not be the case...time will tell no doubt.

Please. I call BS.

How many in here have EVER been admonished for their “big ears, purple lips” comments. (Nor should they be, in my opinion — any more than you should be calling out Texas Grill for his Abbott-bashing comments.)

A reasonable post. Thank you.

Obama is an enemy of the American people, our culture, our history, and the U.S. Constitution. He deserves every bit of sarcasm and ad hominem comments directed his way.

Texas AG, Greg Abbott, is a staunch defender of the fundamental principles and traditions that made this country great. He's a friend to Texans and the American people, and has more than earned the protection of every defender who stands up for his good name against political operatives intent on tearing him down.

Especially when one of those operatives turns out to be the son of someone who's running against him.

Let me see if I have it right:

When Windflier says ad hominems are not in order (as in against Greg Abbott), they are not in order.

However, when Windflier say ad hominems are in order (as in against President Obama), they are in order.

You know that Americans relentlessly made fun of our enemies in WWII, right? You’ve seen the old Warner Bros cartoons from the era, right? Bugs Bunny mocking Hitler, etc.

It’s what you do to your enemies. It’s why we make fun of Obama around here. He’s an enemy to this country.

But we don’t usually make fun of our friends. Friends like Greg Abbott. A guy who stands up for Texans and our American traditions. And the way we figure it, anyone who mocks a friend of ours, is an enemy.

Is that clear enough for you?

So let me get this straight: You are lumping Tex Grill in with Adolph Hitler and the Japanese Imperial Army because he dares to disagree with you on your choice for the Republican nominee for Texas Governor?

Don't be literal. It's a sign of low intelligence, or insincerity. Either one is unbecoming of a Freeper.

Or, are you simply being antagonistic? Yes, I think you are. You understood that analogy, but for some reason, you feel compelled to pick a fight with me. Why is that?

Au contraire, FRiend. It most definitely takes two to tango, and I believe each of us up till this point has given as well as he has gotten! (And I appreciate your not holding back.)

However, I do not think there is any point in continuing the debate, as neither side has convinced the other.

If you are willing to call a truce at this time where both of us accept that we agree to disagree on the appropriateness of Tex Grill’s digs at Greg Abbott in this forum, that would be agreeable to me.

As a matter of perspective, I do know from your posts that we are in agreement on more points than we are not. (Please remember that I remain a strong Greg Abbott supporter — that has never been in question for me.)

If you were in front of me, I would extend my hand to you to shake in goodwill or pass the peace pipe. Fair enough? No hard feelings here.
