McSane isn’t. He should have long left Congress, voluntarily or other.
Agree. Only “recall” at this time is to defeat the curmudgeon at the polls. Why we need lifetime term limits for elected Federal officials. And adding a recall provision or standalone amendment might be a good idea. Let’s stay Constitutional for now, and unless & until Constitutional remedies are exhausted.
The last time he was up for reelection, in ‘10, he had about 7 Million bucks left over from when he didn’t run against Obastard. He filled the airwaves with lies about his Primary opponent, plus he got the Rat cross-over vote.
Two observations: People who donated to his campaign against Obastard were dupes because they donated to his campaign against a conservative challenger. The Rats in AZ will always put him over the top in the Primary and General elections.
He’s Senator for Life, as was Ted Kennedy. McQueeg will leave that office feet first.
Why do the stoopids of Arizona continue supporting this too old foogie?
Arizona allows for recall of all officials. McCain and Flake both supposedly signed voluntary agreement to abide by a recall.
Nope. They did not sign any such pledge. AZ can recall all the state-level pols they want, but not Federal level. Recalling McQueeg is a fool’s errand.
I should add that even if they signed pledges, they cannot be held to them because it would be an extra-constitutional “condition of office.”
As far as I know, the US Constitution says nothing about recalling Federal elected officials. So since it does not explicitly prohibit recalls, it’s a bit strong to accuse recall proponents of “violating” the Constitution.
Those seeking to recall McCain and Flake cite as their authority the Arizona state constitution, which allows for recalls.
Term limits were ruled unconstitutional. Same thing as recall so it’s not too extreme to say recall is unconstitutional.
See post 27.
McCain needs to be kicked out of the GOP.
so if it is determined that they cannot be held to a pledge their word would be broken should they not abide by their pledge...
as for a recall of a US senator being unconstitutional it may be decided by the US Supreme Court...and then again maybe not.

really?
If they did it would be news to me, and I live here. Really.

Not sure I follow you there, but Congressmen and Senators break their pledges daily. It's in their genes, and why most decent people loathe them and would never run for public office.
My original point was, even if they "signed a pledge" (and I don't think McQueeg did), they cannot be held to it because it's extra-constitutional. It would be a requirement placed upon the Congressman or Senator that is not in the Constitution. It could not be enforced, just as term limits were thrown out by the courts (Tom Foley in WA beat the term-limit law in effect in that state in 1992. Foley, who was Speaker of the US House, was promptly thrown out of office by his constituents).
OK, you beat me:

He did sign a pledge to resign in 2001. It was when a recall effort had started.
also if he did not sign a pledge IIRC the SOS would have had to notify the voters before the election thus likely that he did..call the AZ SOS.
as for a voluntary pledge, it would make the constitutional issue much murkier
pressure of a broken pledge like that could put pressure on McQeeg to resign should he fail to uphold his honor...if he didn’t he would out himself as a liar and perjurer...maybe he could be prosecuted for perjury.....
he was saved by 9/11
Correct. The recall movement was dissolved 9/12/01.
I was there, circulating petitions and having liberals spit at me. But I missed the story at the time about his signing a “pledge,” probably because I assumed he was lying, and it was not legally binding. I just figured if the unlikely scenario where he would actually lose a vote ever developed, he’d just pull a Foley.
