I think the Tea Party and other pro-America groups should speak up and tell them to support keeping Assad in power.

No! That's not staying out of it either, that's just taking the other side. They *all* hate us, so we need to leave them *all* alone. We'll deal with whoever wins because they will have earned the right. That's how civil wars work. Sometimes people get damaged in the process and you never know who's going to win.

The thugs running Egypt and Libya are finding out having our help is no great shakes, either. If we help someone win the fight, they're seen by the rest of the country as our puppets and the turmoil starts anew.

Quoted in the liberal New Yorker no less. WOW! And the editors probably just nodded.

GOP leaders in Congress have called for it.

That's the first I've seem them accused of being "conservatives" lately. GOPe is anything but "conservative." Real conservatives want to stay out of Syria, period.

I wouldn’t rate him alongside Mubarak.

He’s not an Islamist nutjob. He’s just a power-hungry sociopath playing the angles with Russia and Iran, not unlike his dad.
Mark Levin described the Assads succinctly. They are essentially mobsters who seized power at an opportune moment. It’s like Al Capone running Syria, and Bashar was not even supposed to be there. His brother got assassinated and he moved up.

Regardless, he is a little like Gaddafi, having mellowed his country in recent years before the uprising. He’s not interested in persecuting Christians. However, he is a key ally of Iran, and their only path through the air to bomb Israel.

I have said from the start. The whole thing is fu8cked up.

I hate it when a tin pot dictator uses armored vehicles and chemical weapons against his own civilian populace resulting in the deaths of innocent women and children.....like Bill Clinton and the Democrats did at Waco.

I think the Assads would occasionally do some sabre rattling against Israel, especially about reclaiming the Golan Heights, for public consumption.

But I think deep down they really don’t care about it, and certainly don’t want to go to war with Israel about it, but still, they have to “keep up appearances.” All they care about is staying in power, and avoid being strung up, like Mussolini or Gaddhafi.

Knowing what we know now I’m not so sure I would have supported removing Saddam from power in Iraq. Its not that he was a nice guy by any means but like Assad he held the country together and had control. The Kurds of Iraq are better off today but that’s because everybody else has gone back to fighting with each other. The Christians of Iraq are worse off because they don’t have the protection that Hussein offered.

One of my concerns with an attack on Syria is that it will cause a rush of refugees into Jordan and stir revolt there and Jordan is the last “friendly” nation in the neighborhood of Israel and King Adbulla really is quite moderate. Really more of a muslim in name only.

Yes, I noticed Iran and Syria failed to bomb us after Waco.

Because not bombing Syria after the “red line” comment would make 0 look stupid and/or weak. Because Assad is not Islamist enough for Barry’s taste. Because 0bummer is planning some new unpopular domestic policy and needs a distraction fast. Because Reggie Love whispered in 0bama’s ear that it would be really cool if his lover boy bombed Syria.

Who knows what goes on in the minds of 0bama sycophants?

I totally agree. That’s my assessment as well.

The Assad’s and their Alawite cohorts could not afford to be anywhere near as radical as the Iranians. They are a tiny minority compared to the Sunnis, who hate Shiite morays.
They do rattle the sabres on the Golan heights (mainly to keep up appearances), but Assad is far more interested in this life, full of fine wines and spa treatment, than the virgins in the afterlife promised by the Ayatollah.

Kristol comes to mind

If you ask Kristol "should we bomb...", he'll nod and say yes before you even name the country. Kristol just loves projecting American power as long as he is not personally at risk.

People like that need to get their asses kicked every once in a while just to remind them they’re advocating violence.

Well, if we do, it sure will leave a nice vacuum that al quaeda is quite ready to fill. As have O’s military blunders every single time. Nice going, Obama.

Because we’re so quick to pull the trigger without exhausting diplomatic options. Beyond that, because the Saudis and qataris want to build a pipeline there and we fight their wars for them, the Sunni Saudis hate the Shiite Assad, and finally since QE isn’t working and war is all that’s left to TPTB.

Why?
Because he is wearing a suit and his wife is not wearing a garbage bag over her head. Both has a university diplomas. And you can buy a Playboy in a street kiosk in Damascus and a bottle of vodka in a supermarket. Hey, they have supermarkets in Syria! And they have automobiles in Syria, even women while real believers abroad has to rely on mules for transportation. And they’ll put you in jail if you are about to have a 9 y.o. bride in Syria. Forget about underage girls, it is illegal to buy any other unwilling bride from her parents there! They are certainly an infidel savages who are clueless about fruits of real Islam! And they reject the will of progressive Allah-fearing part of population in killing Jews and Christian dogs there! That is an insult not only against Islam but the democracy and freedom!

Down with Assad, this evil monster!

Obama wants to depose him so his favorite people (A-Q) can take over the country. Just like Obama planned in Libya (that went well); and just like Obama planned in Egypt (and we’re still seeing how well that is going).

Isn’t anybody getting it yet ..??

Once he’s done with the Middle East .. are WE next ..??

Because the Saudi’s want to build a natural gas pipeline to Europe through Syria and Assad is blocking the path.

Follow the money.
