I agree. Bo Xilai wanted a return of the Cultural Revolution and that’s what led to his downfall. It’s ok to be a corrupt official but the moment you start calling for a return of the Mao Era, you become an outcast.
Well, they may use Mao as an official prop or borrow some slogans from Mao era but really bringing the country back to Mao’s days would be unthinkable. Those Westerners are phenomenally stupid. This also gives the impression that the West is not as strong and smart as they thought. It breeds contempt for the West among Chinese elites, and make them think that they can beat the West in short order. It emboldens China needlessly. It is a dangerous thing.
