We've all see how the left has used the term "denier" in the climate change debate. And despite the absurdity of its use in this context, it has nonetheless been an effective rhetorical device.
So I have to wonder, since there are so many opportunities for those of us on the right to employ this term - and to do so with far greater accuracy - why don't we?
For starters, let's consider the usage and equivalencies. The term "denier" is most widely associated with those who do not believe the historical events of the Holocaust. While those who apply this to climate change might argue an equivalency based on a future "holocaust", this comparison falls short because denying a historical fact is something quite different than holding a different view over unproven theories regarding what might happen in the future.
But we on the right have many opportunities to make better use of the term denier - better, because it would be based on historical facts rather than on future speculation - and some of those fact patterns would indeed relate to holocausts, of sorts. I therefore think we should co-opt this phrase and start applying the term "deniers" to some of these issues.
I'll gladly start this off, and I naturally invite other Freepers to add their own ideas on how this term could also be used.
1. Abortion-Is-Murder Denier
2. Communism-Has-Failed Denier
3. Socialism-Has-Failed Denier
4. Obamacare-Is-A-Tax Denier
5. Left-Wing-Media-Bias Denier
6. Martin-Attacked-Zimmerman Denier
7. Global Warming Hoax Denier!
Usually, these days the left applies it to people who don’t buy the man-made global warming baloney.
Pretty good idea.
I have already used the term during my debates online, mostly re: global cooling denier. It has the added value of being true.
We could add “hater” to our arsenal:
Liberty hater
Private property hater
Personal responsibility hater
Christian hater
How about the ignorers?
Deficit ignorers, etc.
I take your general point.
I quibble with your #4 example, Obamacare is a tax denier.
I don’t agree that it should be described as a tax. There are taxes INCLUDED in it, for sure. But it is a takeover of the healthcare and healthcare insurance industries by government mandate, rule and regulation. John Roberts was wrong to say it’s Constitutional because it is a tax.
That was one of the most awful rulings in SCOTUS history.
Obamacare is unConstitutional denier is much more to the point. There is no freaking way the Constitution empowers the federal government in this manner. Just the opposite is true. The Constitution empowers the states and people AGAINST this tyranny.
They see me rollin’
They be hatin’
And obviously people who trot out this "denier" bullshit have never known a holocaust survivor. Try and invoke the events they survived as some kind of cheap political tactic in front of one of them and you're liable to get beaten about the head and shoulders with a walker or cane.
I like it!
Will start using it.
(especially for Poor Economy Denier - PED=Pedestrian Economy)
I also am using a spin-off of LIV
MIV (Mis-Informed Voter)
I think you’ve found the flaw in my argument!
How about “racial deniers?” Those would be the master baiters like Sharlaton and Jackasson who pretend that all racism is white-on-black and never vice versa. Although the more accurate term might be “thug apologists.”
And what about the gender deniers who want to pretend that men and women are exactly the same?
Or immigration deniers who ignore the fact that the country is being overrun by criminals from other countries who violate our borders at will?
“Low road”? The left owes its success to the “low road” of manipulating language to its advantage. We need to learn to do the same thing. Call it “low road” if you’d like but we are losing — at least in the court of public opinion — because we fail to do it.
That’s all well and good. Just don’t go pretending you’re better than them at the end of the day.
Needs to be short to catch on.
Media bias denier works.
I like the idea. No question that the left has dominated the pop culture low information voter with such tactics, and it is overdue to turn them back on the left.
What we have on our side is the ring of truth to combine with the jingo, and we need to apply it accordingly for effect. Example; There is no question that we are in economic decline, as even the lowest of low information voters can recognize things were better when there were plenty of full time, benefit and health insurance jobs out there, so anyone contesting that notion is an “economy denier”, or “freedom denier”, or in abortion “life denier”.
Taking back the language, not allowing the left to define issues and even words to their agenda. This is our battle.
“We could add hater to our arsenal:
Liberty hater
Private property hater
Personal responsibility hater
Christian hater”
I like this idea even more. The left has hate as it’s most basic motivator. Let’s use their most prized emotion against them.
