Maybe so. If we start 2.54 cm-ing, then you’ll know it’s over. Base-10 systems are the hallmark of dictatorships.

I’d say we’re on a leisurely cruise at about 35 MPH

inching?
Running full speed into it

Nearly every contact I have had with the police over the last 30 years had been unpleasant. I've been hollered at, had fingers wagged in my face, had money stolen...and, yesterday...barked at over a loud speaker because a goon in a squad car didn't want to wait in rush hour traffic.
And, I'm not some sort of trouble maker...I'm a retired military officer with a current TS clearance and a strong sense of right and wrong.
You simply cannot avoid having to deal with the overbearing a-holes.

No. It’s there. The Patriot Act killed a once great Nation.

I’ve seen ads recruiting police officers for starting salaries as low as $23,000/yr.
That’s virtually hanging out the shingle and saying “losers and a-holes only need apply”.

We're at warp speed, IMO.

Ive seen ads recruiting police officers for starting salaries as low as $23,000/yr. I hear a lot about low pay for cops, but here in So Cal, anyone over 21 with a HS diploma can become a cop and be making over $100K within in 7 years.
And, I made much less than $23K for much of of military career. Yet I was still required to have some level of intelligence and discipline.

truly, a master example of understatement !!!!!

I believe “sprinting” is the term. Or, perhaps, “arrived”.

I worry less about local police forces and far more about heavily armed government goon squads enforcing even trivial regulation violations. Look at the recent case in Wisconsin where more than a dozen agents and sheriffs deputies responded to a local animal shelter to kill an abandoned fawn. The government even used aerial surveillance to obtain a warrant.
Will government SWAT teams be dispatched to apprehend those without health insurance under Obamacare?

Patriot Act?
Ask Sammy or Vicky Weaver about a police State.
Or a Branch Davidian....

That Rubicon was crossed long ago. ... around 1970, when the Controlled Substances Act was passed and the War on {some} Drugs declared.
