Solzhenitsyn was 100% correct in explaining what they though in hindsight

But as it was happening it was like the boiling frog- if you toss the frog into boiling water it will immediately hop out (frogs can do that) but if you put it in cold water and gradually raise the heat, it will think it is in a nice warm sauna until it is too late.
