Correction to address an even bigger question.
Paranoia alert:
This is far fetched, but could one factor in the Obama war on the USMC be that he fears them to be the least likely to follow orders to fire on American citizens?
Just putting some spark into the threat.........
Well I am not a veteran, but am very interested in the USA.
We have sold out our own nation.
BRING BACK US INDUSTRY.
There are more state employees in New Jersey then there are US Marines.
You have to ask yourself - when was the last time there as an amphibious assault any where in the World? 1982?
Interesting.
I live in a state with no sales tax, no income tax, and not a lot of state employees.
What do all those NJ state employees DO?
This comes as no surprise. The game plan is always to hit the most valuable & leave the least productive alone.
When I called Brett Guthrie’s (R) KY, office the other day to demand he support shutting down the government if necessary to defund ObamaCare, his office immediately said, “but..but... that would stop paychecks to the military and ObamaCare would continue to get funded.” Stop looking to establishment Republicans for relief. Not going to happen.
Liberals always welcome an excuse to shortchange the military. The sequester is all smoke and mirrors.
a 2% budget cut evenly spread across ALL federally funded programs would have a negligible impact
focusing the same dollar amount on a small handful of areas, would have an dramatic effect
bathhouse barry and the dems are trying to maximize the impact to minimize future budgetary cuts (we’re spending $3.5 trillion while bringing in only $2 trillion... we need more then a 2% cut). the big govt types are doing everything they can to hang onto their big spending habits
this is obvious to anyone with a working frontal lobe.
All these cut backs and yet the civilian army...er...authorities are being up armed to the teeth.
I think you are correct. The Oath Keepers has a special page just for Marine vets.
The optimal solution would be for veteran military to form a “low impact light infantry professional force”, with the idea of subcontracting to the Pentagon for extended missions with minimum conflict, like peacekeeping and humanitarian relief.
These are extremely expensive missions for the active duty military, and they also degrade their capabilities. But a professional force could cost a little, relatively speaking, but be very profitable for the veterans working for it.
Many of their missions would be things like providing a reliable food supply to conflict areas, operating a coastal or river ship that uses reverse osmosis to provide a lot of clean water, and providing security to areas hit by fast moving brigands or other fighters.
Likewise they could bring in quality foreign personnel, with the prior service US veterans acting as their officers and NCOs, to insure quality.
Overall savings to the US could be tens of billions of dollars a year, running up to hundreds of billions. Essential support, supply and transportation by the US military could be part of the contract.
Royal Marines conducted an amphibious assault during the Iraq War. US Marines conducted 104 amphibious operations between 1990-1999.

"Your nation will be faithful to you, but my Perfumed Princes in the Pentagon and I will not".
Seems like the last days of anything with U.S. in it.
The cuts just don’t seem all that draconian to me.
The chineese womens call up army is 310 million.
The womens army
All of the Marines I know are very “black or white” type of people. They don’t deal in shades of gray. In their mind, you are the enemy or you are not. If you are the enemy, you are a legal target...and that means a rifle target.
This mindset does not work with the Obama administration’s stance that enemies are friends and friends are enemies and that the lines move every day and for every situation.
I surrender!
