Local police and fire departments also have these max limitations. The reason they give for it is retirement. Employees older than that will meet mandatory retirement years before they would be eligible for a pension. That was the explanation that I was given. I think it is a bunch of bull, but that’s how it is.
That one's illegal.
“moral standards”
That really cuts down the pool of prospects these days
Moral standards?
Sounds like a military branch with the age range.
Actually, I’m guessing the job description is for military recruitment, so age discrimination doesn’t apply.
Proving it is another matter.
Thanks for all of your answers. Not sure what their high moral standards are nowadays but I’m sure that I meet whatever requirement they have in that area. Several of you guessed it was for the National Guard and you are right about that. Here’s what I’ve determined. I really don’t want to join the Army at my age now. However, every other private business that is hiring has the same unwritten rule, you have to be under 35 to get a job these days. I don’t care what they post about not discriminating about age they are doing it anyways.
I inadvertently received in the interoffice mail a listing from the HR department at Quebecor Printing (bankrupt and now under a much better company) which listed everyone in the office and their age and anticipated retirement date. I had been there 16 years and nobody had ever reached their retirement date prior to their dismissal.
All while this blatant age discrimination was going on and the company was hemorrhaging money they continued to pay the son of the original owner, $6 Million + per year. In this case the OWS scum were right. Sort of the broken watch syndrome.
I joined the National Guard when I was 34. The age limit was 42 back then. I guess they have since raised it.
That has not been the case when I was part of the hiring process. I don't mean just me; all of the departments hired older people. We were more concerned with price and productivity. Having a recommendation from someone we knew and trusted carried a lot of weight.
What industry? What type of positions?
Well that explains the magical age of 35.
oil/gas/petrochem
engineering / design / procurement / field labor / shop labor
Both in Texas and in Alaska
If no one over 35 is considered, then +40 is discriminated against.
But then this was a government job so the rules they make don’t apply to them.
How many 60+ people did you hire? Are they still hiring 60+ people now?
I would encourage one to join the Guard.. Before the Marxist Muslim gay illegal alien became the Commander-In-Chief, that is.
I’ve hired design checkers ~75 years old.
That isn’t common, most are not over 60 but probably 10~15% of them were.
Some of the folks who have worked for me their experience and associated knowledge could not easily be replaced with youthful enthusiasm. You need some mix of all for many effective teams.
