Here's an interesting survey of the failed efforts to maintain sensible borders and immigration policies over the past 20 years or so. The author, Peter Brimelow, wrote Alien Nation in 1995; the article is from the 2013 Kindle version of that book. He has no kind words for W. F. Buckley and NR. Here is a brief excerpt:

It's a no-brainer. Ryan who is a traitor on EVERY isuue was much, much too close to being in the WH while we still knew nothing about him. Even if a dem wins, Ryan's career has to be ended now and it has to be clear it's because he traitored us on Obamacare and stopping the invasion of the US. He has to be on the trash-heap of history, fast.

A dem who knows his state hates Obamacare and understands that they don't need foreign labor might be a better vote anyway.

Is this worse than Rubio? YES. For starters, Ryan saw what happened to Rubio's standing when he traitored us. Add to that, Rubio's treachery was only about one issue....Ryan is against us on everything, so it seems.
